MY NEXT FEW GUITAR BUILDS.
The next few cigar box guitars that I will be making will be on the same vein as the R whites one the reason for this is I can use up all the leftover bits and pieces from last years building projects.
So it will be a few diddly bows and perhaps a few chuggers, that will take care of the odd number of tuners I have along with odd strings.
This will allow me to offer them for sale at a lower price than most of my other builds, 20 piezo,s cost about £15.00 tops and the input jacks are cheap no need for volume and tone controls just plug into an Amp and away you go.
Another good thing is having made two projects using soft pitch pine for the necks and not noticing any warp or stress from the string tension over the last twelve months its a safe bet there is a slight deading of the sound on the one without a pick up which really isn't,t that noticeable.
£10 - £20 for a single piece of hardwood and £2.00 - £5.00 for a length of pine.
Its all about getting them out there and getting the young and older generation into this Fascinating world of the cigar box guitar the good thing is there is no rules how you play these things you will get the diehards saying all shorts about the playability of the guitars.
Go on youtube and watch the videos( I will stop short of saying the good and the bad) they all have one thing in common the people playing are playing with feeling from the heart and not scared of doing so.
I myself still struggle playing as I have for the last forty years that's not to say I can, not play the guitar be it a1, 2,3,4,5, or 6 string because I can.
I said to a friend of mine once that i could not play because i don,t have any rhythm his answer was if you had no rhythm you would not be breathing.
Thanks for that Stewart that changed everything for me, Stewart is a very well known Busker around the Cheshire Aera and played in a Punk Band in his heyday.
If your thinking of making one for yourself do not put too much effort into trying to get it perfect after all a guitar is a box of some short a piece of wood attached to the box to hold a string that goes from the top of the wood ( the neck to a fixed point on the box the bridge). I myself do not use any power tools other than a drill everything is done the old way by hand, shaping the neck is done with a file to get some sort of shaping and sandpaper sanding across the grain than with the grain The box is either made for me or found on eBay, and the likes.
Believe me, when its finished not only will you be proud as punch you will also be amazed by how it sounds and you will be hooked on the cigar box guitar.
Below is a link to a Cigar Box Magazine this gives a good insight into the makers and players of the cigar box guitar, Its full of information each issue can be downloaded and read offline take a look at JAN 2019 issue this features James Dixon singer /songwriter from Bude and will be touring with Sea Sick Steve in 2020.
